MATCH PREVIEW: Arsenal vs Bayer Leverkusen – Team News, Lineups, and Predictions
As two historic football clubs prepare to clash in the UEFA Champions League, the stage is set for an exciting encounter between Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen this Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 20:00 and fans can catch the match live on TNT Sports 1.
Recent Form: Arsenal vs. Bayer Leverkusen
Arsenal is heading into this match riding a wave of confidence after a solid 2-0 victory against Everton in their last Premier League fixture. This win not only boosts their morale but also reinforces their strong home form, where they’ve been nearly unstoppable. In contrast, Bayer Leverkusen managed a gritty 1-1 draw against Bayern München, reflecting a resilient but slightly uneven performance in the Bundesliga. Their last encounter ended in a 1-1 stalemate as well, indicating that both teams come into this match with an even footing.
Injury Updates: Pre-Match Availability
Both teams are dealing with injury concerns that could impact their strategies. For Arsenal, Leandro Trossard and Martin Ødegaard are both in doubt, which could affect their attacking prowess and creativity in midfield. On the Bayer Leverkusen side, the absence of goalkeeper Mark Flekken due to a cruciate ligament injury, along with Arthur Augusto, Loic Badé, Lucas Vázquez, and Eliesse Ben Seghir, who are struggling with various injuries, presents a challenge. These missing players could alter Leverkusen’s defensive stability and offensive options.
Last Starting XIs: Tactical Insights
In their recent match against Everton, Arsenal fielded a strong lineup with David Raya in goal, supported by a defensive trio of Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhães. The midfield featured Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice, alongside the dynamic attacking trio of Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Noni Madueke, culminating in Kai Havertz leading the attack.
Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, relied on Janis Blaswich between the posts during their clash against Bayern München, with a defense that included Jarell Quansah and Robert Andrich. Their midfield was a blend of creativity and grit, featuring players like Aleix García and Ezequiel Fernández, while forwards Martin Terrier and Patrik Schick aimed to capitalize on any scoring opportunities.
Head-to-Head Record: A Historical Perspective
Historically, Arsenal has had the upper hand in their meetings with Bayer Leverkusen. Out of three previous encounters, Arsenal secured one win while the other two ended in draws. When playing at the Emirates, Arsenal boasts a perfect record against Leverkusen, winning their only match there. This aspect could fuel Arsenal’s confidence as they prepare for the upcoming fixture.
Current Trends: Formations and Tactics
Arsenal’s recent performances demonstrate a fluid attacking style, characterized by swift transitions and coordinated pressing. Mikel Arteta’s tactical acumen has led to a resilient defense that has proven effective both at home and on the road. In contrast, Bayer Leverkusen has shown defensive solidity but has been inconsistent in their attacking flow, grappling with injuries to key players. However, they remain a treat on the counter-attack, often relying on the pace and skill of their forwards.
Did You Know? Interesting Stats
As we look at some intriguing statistics, Bayer Leverkusen has one loss in their last six away games, but that winless streak stretches to three games in total. Meanwhile, Arsenal boasts an impressive home record, with only one loss in their last 23 games and scoring in every home match for the last seven. Both squads have shown remarkable resilience over the course of the season, making this match all the more intriguing.
Managerial Insight
Both managers have had limited encounters against each other. Mikel Arteta and Kasper Hjulmand each recorded a draw in their previous meetings. This tactical alignment will be pivotal in how the teams set up and respond to each other during the match.

Thornton Family Celebrates as ‘Baby’ Kaylah Delivers a State Title Moment
Kaylah Thornton: A Rising Star in Girls Basketball
The Big Moment
Kaylah Thornton recently showcased her remarkable talent on the court during the state tournament, averaging an impressive 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game. Her standout moment—a jaw-dropping buzzer-beater from the top of the key—sent her team, the Fairmont Firebirds, into overtime and ultimately secured the Division I state title. This clutch performance not only highlighted her skill but also earned her the coveted Most Valuable Player honors.
Reflecting on the journey, Kaylah expressed immense pride in her team, stating, “We’ve been working hard since June, day in and day out. I just think that us seniors wanted to go out with a bang, and we did that.” The culmination of more than ten months of rigorous training and ten years together as a senior class turned into a victorious moment they will never forget.
Family Ties and Legacy
Kaylah is affectionately known as the “baby” of the Thornton family, being only a minute younger than her twin brother, Kam Thornton, who plays for the boys’ basketball team. Basketball runs deep in the family, particularly with Kaylah’s older sister, Kiarra, who previously played for Fairmont and experienced her own heartbreaking moments on the court.
Six years ago, Kaylah watched as Kiarra’s team fell short in a regional final, a game dramatically overshadowed when the COVID-19 pandemic led to the cancellation of the state tournament. This past weekend, however, Kaylah flipped the narrative. She played nearly every minute of the championship match against Princeton, finishing with 19 points, and was determined to make a name for herself in the family legacy.
Overcoming Adversity
The game was anything but straightforward. After falling behind by 13 points early in the second quarter, the Firebirds displayed resilience as they methodically chipped away at Princeton’s lead. With just over three minutes left, they found themselves down by seven. “It was absolutely crazy,” her mother, Marjory Thornton, noted, highlighting Kaylah’s composure and determination under pressure.
With only seconds remaining and the team trailing, Kaylah made a strategic play following a missed free throw by Princeton’s Heaven Sneed. She quickly grabbed the rebound, navigated through defenders, and delivered the game-tying three-pointer that echoed through the arena, igniting a wild celebration among Fairmont fans.
Coach Finn’s Trust and Strategy
Fairmont’s coach, Jeremey Finn, had confidence in Kaylah when the stakes were at their highest. He emphasized the importance of letting players make their own decisions in critical moments, saying, “There’s no time to set screens, like you got to let them make plays.” Kaylah’s judgement and skill shone through as she seized the opportunity, sinking the crucial shot.
Finn’s leadership throughout the season has been instrumental in molding the Firebirds into champions. His focus on day-to-day improvement rather than just the end goal allowed the team to stay grounded and prepared. He valued strong non-conference opponents who tested their abilities, bolstering their confidence leading into the state tournament.
Reflecting on the Journey
Kiarra Thornton, watching from the sidelines, couldn’t contain her pride for her younger sister’s achievement. “It means a lot, seeing them work so hard since third grade all the way up. They’ve truly earned this,” she remarked, acknowledging the team’s dedication and the deep bonds formed under Coach Finn’s mentorship.
The season goals set at the beginning—winning a Greater Western Ohio Conference title, a district title, and a deep tournament run—were bravely pursued and, ultimately, accomplished. Kaylah’s hard work and tenacity through the years have finally surfaced in the form of a state championship ring.
As the “baby” of the family, Kaylah’s recent success is not just about basketball; it’s a heartfelt journey filled with resilience, passion, and familial support. Her story serves as a beautiful reminder of the power of teamwork and the pursuit of dreams, not only for herself but also for her family and community.
A Future Bright with Promise
With aspirations high and talent on full display, Kaylah is set to continue her basketball journey, having already committed to play for Akron in her collegiate career. This championship win is a testament to her hard work while also laying the foundation for what lies ahead. As she and her family celebrate this well-deserved victory, they are undoubtedly excited for where the future will take her on and off the court.

Significant Snowstorm Set to Hit the Area This Weekend | News, Sports, Jobs

IRON MOUNTAIN — A major winter storm is on the horizon for the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin, with potentially record-breaking snowfall anticipated to begin late tonight. The National Weather Service has issued warnings that many areas could see snow accumulation exceeding a foot, and localized spots along Lake Michigan might experience up to 3 feet of snow.
Beginning late tonight and continuing through Monday evening, a winter storm watch will be in effect. Forecasters are advising residents to prepare for heavy snowfall and difficult travel conditions.
In the Delta County area, approximately 9 inches of snow fell as a precursor to the incoming storm, which kicked off early Friday morning and continued into the afternoon. The Iron Mountain-Kingsford region reported around 8 to 12 inches on the same day, emphasizing the rapid onset of winter conditions.
As these extreme weather conditions unfold, Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) has mobilized repair crews to address potential power outages. Dan Freeborn, UPPCO’s Communications and External Affairs Manager, noted that outages could happen as strong winds and heavy snow batter the area. Residents are cautioned never to approach downed power lines and are advised to maintain a safe distance of at least 35 feet if they encounter one, notifying emergency services immediately.
Anticipated wind gusts could reach up to 35 mph on Sunday, contributing to blizzard-like conditions. While the storm could bring challenges, warmer weather is predicted later in the week with highs of 44 degrees expected on Thursday.
In Wisconsin, the Marinette County Highway Department is urging residents to avoid non-essential travel during the storm. With predicted snow totals anywhere from 20 to 29 inches, combined with high winds leading to blowing and drifting snow, road clearing efforts may be severely hampered. Jessica Demler, the Marinette County Emergency Management Coordinator, highlighted the importance of keeping roads clear for more effective snow removal operations and ensuring safety for emergency responders.
The impending storm is not isolated to Michigan; blizzard conditions are forecast for portions of Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, northern Illinois, and southeastern Minnesota, with snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 feet stretching from Minneapolis to Green Bay and into the Upper Peninsula. Meanwhile, rain and a wintry mix are expected to transition to snow across southern Michigan and around Chicago, complicating conditions further.
